This one's for Crackah!

Saw this on tv last night and freaked! We've been talking about this for years, and it's finally come to pass. Both versions, and the new Final Cut with tons of never-before-seen footage all in one package. Life is sweet, even if you do only get 4 years.

I'm just glad I never bought this on DVD yet. Now all I have to do is get a Blu-ray player and a big ol' plasma to watch it on. Sweeeeeet!!

Okay, clue me in. I can't believe I am about to say this in this forum, but I have only been a marginal Blade Runner fan my whole life. It has never grabbed me like I have seen it grab others, and sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with me because of it. So because of that, I am unsure what you guys are talking about when you say both movies. Was there a second one, or is it just the director's cut, which I have never seen?

I think Blade Runner was the first science fiction movie outside of perhaps 2001: A Space Odyssey that took the genre to a completely new level of film making that one could truly call art. It combined noir, drama, symbolism, action, and realistic visions of our future all into one using Oscar-worthy set designs, cinematography, music, and acting.

The "Final Cut" will represent the third iteration of Blade Runner. Ridley Scott lost control of the movie during original production when he ran over budget, and the studio ultimately took over at the very end, coming up with the theatrical release version that added a hopeful ending and the infamous voice-over that both Scott and Harrison Ford have bashed numerous times in the press. The second version was the "Director's Cut" that Ridley Scott hastily put together, but even this wasn't quite up to what he had envisioned. Apparently, now he's got the clout and the time to put together Blade Runner exactly how he wanted to oh so many years ago, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the film.

Oh, and speaking of Ridley Scott, did anyone read the rumour that he's going to make a movie based on the board game Monopoly? I kid you not...
