Some sweet new pics from the Transformers movie were released today. I'm sure there will be plenty of haters out there, but me? Man, I couldn't have asked for a cooler Optimus Prime then the one in the pic above. Well, except maybe this one.

Honestly, did you ever in your wildest dreams think you would be anticipating the release of a Michael Bay movie?
What is the world coming to?
Or maybe you should ask what is coming to the world?
This movie looks pretty cool.
I'm so torn by the costumes; on the one hand, they're really dorky. But, they are really well done and inventive.
I'm wondering what Megatron is going to look like. Surely, he's not going to be a handgun (unless it's the elephant gun I shot a couple of months ago). That would be kind of lame.
This movie could be really cool and start a new franchise, or completely bomb. I don't think there's going to be any middle ground for this one. I'm still holding my judgement, and stocking up on some Tylenol before I go see this movie in the summer. Is it just me, or does anyone else get a slight headache watching Michael Bay movies with all the edits and 10 trillion shots from a million points of view?
His movies are real hot or cold for me, actually. I loved 'The Rock' but hated 'Armegeddon' and 'Bad Boys'. 'Pearl Harbor' was awful, except for the actual attack scene, which I think was filmed incredibly well. I think 'The Island' had real potential but never reached it.
But, I have to confess, I think 'Bad Boys 2' is one of the best pure action films I've ever seen. I've probably seen it upwards of fifty times, no kidding, and I enjoy it everytime. Granted, I think Will Smith is at the top of his game, and Martin Lawrence is much better then usual, so they are a big part of why I like it, along with a great script. But the highway chase scene, where they are dropping cars off the truck onto the road at 60 mph while they dodge around them in the Ferrari, nobody else could have filmed that better, I don't think.
No one destroys high priced cars better than Michael Bay, I'll give you that. Well, then again Eddie Griffin did a pretty good job on that Ferrari. But anywho, who better to blow up a bunch of transforming robots/vehicles than Bay?
I still haven't taken much of a shine to his movies, though. I only liked The Rock for Sean Connery. And oddly, I enjoyed Bad Boys more than its sequel. Then again, I was half asleep when I tried watching Bad Boys 2 on DVD--maybe I'll give it another look.
As far as The Island, I just watched that a couple of weeks ago in my hotel room when I was in Houston, and commented to Firecracker George similar thoughts as you--such an interesting concept with lots of availabe money from the Hollywood studios wasted on a lousy film.
I pretty much think Michael Bay is a Tony Scott/Ridley Scott wannabe, and steals a lot of their visual styling cues.
