Lotus Dreams

My youngest Brother-in-Law turned 21 yesterday, and I left work early and picked up Tellulah so we could drive down to Boulder to meet all of her family for a birthday dinner. It was 70 degrees yesterday with not a cloud in the sky, and there were legs and breasts on display everywhere. But the only thing I cared about, the Lotus Elise the exact color as the one above that went zooming around us outside Boulder. A rare car to begin with, it is even rarer on the pothole scarred, gravel covered roads of Colorado. I don't remember the last time I saw a Lotus, and it immediately made me think of Swany. Nice taste in cars there buddy. I'm still drooling.

Yeah, I'm still hoping that dream will become reality one of these days, although mature responsible thoughts keep invading my brain. The Lotus is not known for it's comfort or practicality, and I've been eyeing an Infiniti G35 coupe or two on the highway thinking my ass might feel better sitting in one of those for hours at a time on the road. Plus, there's the thoughts of what I'll do with a baby and a car seat once the wife and I finally decide it's time. Maybe a Volvo wagon would be a better choice, which is actually one of my other oddball fetishes--I actually like Volvo wagons.

Meanwhile, my Honda Accord is about to hit 100K miles today, and I think I'll be stuck with her for a couple more years at least. By then, I'll probably really have lost my mind, and will be lusting after some sort of pickup truck thinking it would be practical for hauling wood. Why I would need to haul wood, I don't know.

Speaking of cars, we should all meet up in Germany, rent Porsches, and have some fun on the Autobahn. I think Fandango suggested that awhile back--fun times that only seem to materialize in our minds.

Even if you don't have to haul wood, it is just fun to do it. I often walk up to random doors and ask if they need me and my truck to haul some wood.

Funny that Wander saw the above Lotus yesterday. I saw one today except that it was yellow. I have seen a couple around town. I think that it is funny that G'boro has an exotic car dealership. Raleigh nor Charlotte have this but we do. I thought it was because we were halfway between the two, but it has nothing to do with it from what I understand. It is just that the dealer lives here and didn't want to have his dealership anywhere else. It is fun to see Lotuses (or is it Loti), Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other exotics around town. I had a Ford drive by me the other day too. You know the one they made to compete with the Corvette and Viper - it didn't even have a name.

All of that to say that I think you should still strive for the Lotus. Just make it your second vehicle. The one you use for date nights.

The Ford GT--it sort of has a name.

Exotic Italian sports cars in the middle of North Carolina? No offense to where you live, but based on how you talk about the place sometimes, I'm picturing some guy with his Nascar cap and Oakley sunglasses on tooling around town in a Diablo running the gas pedal and clutch with his Croc-adorned feet looking in his rearview mirror and admiring a sticker of Calvin peeing on a Porsche logo displayed prominently on the back window. It just seems wrong.

GT - that's it. I wanted to say GTO but I knew that wasn't right.
